FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SCREENS
* mandatory for strength training services, recommended for all
“Fundamental movement supports specific movement.”
- Gray Cook, renowned physiotherapist and strength coach
We offer a biomechanical assessment of a person’s movement through what is called a Functional Movement Screen. A functional movement screen identifies imbalances that exist in individuals at the most basic levels of movement. Imbalances lead to movement limitations and should not be overlooked. Significant limitations distort motor learning, movement, perception, body awareness and mechanics. They rob the body of efficiency and are very often hidden by those athletes who learn to compensate and substitute with other movement patterns. Too many athletes are performing high-level activities (i.e. playing soccer) even though they are inefficient in their fundamental movements. These athletes create poor movement patterns, train around a pre-existing problem or simply do not train their weakness during their strength and conditioning programs.
Benefits of a F.M.S. in your training program:
- Improve functional and athletic performance
- Reduce the potential for training and sports injuries
- Identify physical imbalances or weaknesses
- Help rehabilitate imbalances and strengthens weaknesses with simple corrective exercises
- Individualize training programs for greater athlete results
- Identification of potential cause and effect of chronic injuries
Fundamental Movement Patterns – mobility & stability = ranges of motion, proper posture, and balance
Movement Efficiency – the ability to produce or generate power
Sport Specific Skill – soccer specific exercises and technical training
